Water Issues

Snake Valley residents in Utah are currently embroiled in a fight against neighboring "Southern Nevada Water Authority" (SNWA) regarding drainage of the shared aquifer for new development in Clark county. Water knows no state boundaries, so it is very possible that habitats of not only the people of Snake Valley, but of the fauna and flora are at risk.

Water is likely to become a larger issue over the course of this century. How Snake Valley is handled will be a landmark case against which others are judged. If the SNWA feels they are not going to impact the water table of Snake Valley, they should put their money where their intent is. When lack of water in Utah becomes a financial issue for SNWA, then they're more likely to be concerned with the final outcome.

Our congressional representation should fund the 2nd half of the US Geological Survey water study so the full impact of the SNWA's intent can be known.

Existing water users should have their rights weighted over potential.

The Bear River should be closely managed in order to serve both agricultural needs and to provide sufficient inflows to support and sustain the Bear River Bird Migratory Refuge which is a critical ecological component to waterfowl life along the shores of the Great Salt Lake.
